The foods listed that reduce clotting - I am not clear - are they ok to eat or not. I thought blueberries helped with platelet counts but its listed. Can my daughter eat ot not?

If you ask this of a doctor in the UK they will most likely say that the effects of foods is minimal and not to worry. But if you want to be ultra careful then avoid those foods when the count is very low. Personally, I don't avoid anything but then I'm a bit of a rebel :)

I've experienced this. I have become a bit cautious because my counts have been below 30 and I noticed differences. What I experience is more bruising and a longer time to clot if cut. I wouldn't stop eating these things unless she's having bleeding issues. I try not to binge on these foods. I like green tea but I can't have it every day. There are so many foods on that list that are excellent antioxidants and vitamins, you have to eat good stuff. Just use common sense. Most can eat any and all but if counts are low it could effect the count or clotting factor.

As long as the food or supplement doesn't destroy platelets, then it depends on what her bleeding symptoms and times are. Several years ago, I had a full work up for Von Willebrand disease which is a disorder in the clotting factors. I was negative for Von Willebrand, but the bleeding time test with the "coffee filter" was over 10 minutes and the blood test came back as having an "asprin-like" subsubstance that impacted the clotting. After some digging, the doctor and I contributed taking a multi-vitamin with ginko-buloba as the likely culprit. When my counts crashed 18 months ago, I stopped taking a strong antioxidant heavy in grape seed extract. Whether or not it was a contributing factor, I'll never know.

I don't think that occassionally eating them would be an issue if she doesn't have bleeding issues. I consume many of the items on the list, I've just stopped the consistent daily intake. Much like I avoid ibuprophin most of time, but if I'm really suffering from muscle imflamation I'll do a few as needed.
