"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has." ~Margaret Mead
PDSA’s efforts are strengthened by the purposeful engagement and generosity of patients, caregivers, and advocates. Working together, we have the greatest opportunity to improve outcomes for ITP patients worldwide.
Throughout the year, and particularly during ITP Awareness Month, many in the ITP patient community step forward to make a difference and to give back, actively raising awareness for ITP and funding for PDSA. In September 2022, Eileen’s Special Cheesecake in Manhattan, NY held a creative ITP awareness event, offering a limited promotional “purple sprinkle” cheesecake, with all proceeds going to PDSA for ITP research. AUTOimmunity Racing helped draw attention to the event by parking the No. 43 AUTOimmunity Racing ProSport Competition Aston Martin GT4 race car (with Eileen’s Cheesecake and PDSA livery) on-site.
For Eileen’s owners, this event was personal. Their son, Joseph Ponte, was diagnosed with ITP in 2020 and the entire family wanted to help advance the understanding of ITP and much-needed research. Eileen’s co-owner Bonnie Ponte explained, “Joseph’s ITP has turned his world upside down. And it’s easy to feel hopeless and helpless in situations like this but, as a family, we’ve decided to take it head on and shine a light on ITP – to make people aware of what it is, how it presents, and what it means for those who live with it day in and day out. This is our way of making a difference.”
Joseph and his family are a perfect example of how a small group of thoughtful committed individuals is working to change the world of ITP. Watch the short video below to learn about Joseph’s ITP journey and why your donation matters.
