Has anyone tried N-acetyl-l-carnitine (ALCAR) and alpha lipoic acid to combat fatigue? I mentioned the ALCAR to my hemo and he did not advise against taking it. I came across these supplements on chronic fatigue and ms forums...just desperately searching for some tips:S
Am thinking of going down the diet route, but it is somewhat daunting and confusing...
I haven't tried either of the supplements that you mention, but thought I'd pipe in with what has been helping with my energy levels lately. I started juicing in the mornings and have had a significant boost in energy. I do carrot, a good amount of a mix of greens (earthbound farms "power" blend of baby kale, baby spinach, and baby red and green chard), beet, and apple/orange/pear (some amount of fruit for a bit of sweetness).
Overall since improving my diet (I'm trying to eat mostly paleo-ish which means no dairy, no refined carbohydrates, etc.... basically fruit, veggies, chicken/fish/shrimp/beef, eggs, and small amounts of nuts (nut milks, nut butters, etc.)) my energy levels have improved dramatically. This is great because I am always fighting anemia because of ITP related blood loss.
Good luck investigating those supplements, but I personally feel like improving the vitamin and nutrient profile of my overall diet has had a big effect on energy. I'm pretty sure that I had plenty of vitamin deficiencies that I wasn't treating, and improving diet is usually the best way to get better absorption for lots of things.
