In a poster at the EHA Dr. Howard Liebman and Dr. James Bussel (both PDSA medical advisors) compared a marker for inflammation with quality of life and other factors for some of their patients. They found that the higher the inflammatory marker, the lower the quality of life. They conclude that "a high level of cytokines such as IL6 derived from the reticuloendothelial system which is chronically activated in ITP, may result in a cytokine-induced behavior included fatigue observed on ITP patients."
My take is that it could help to engage in behaviors that reduce the inflammation in the body such as staying away from food that increases inflammation. There are examples of anti-inflammatory diets on the internet.
