Question on itp and vitamin d was created by Kelirae24
So my hemoglobin is fine but my ferratin is 10 and iron day 11 I did 6 weeks of the iv infusions of infed, went up to ferratin 18 sat 16. Then I had bleeding for about 60 days no one still knows why just that my uterine lining was thick, anyway iron checked again I was at ferratin 8 and iron sat 11 so now I started the high dose iron injectafer for 2 weeks hoping it helps more. I had them run a vitamin d test because I heard iron and vitamin d can go hand in hand my vitamin d came back low at 23, was told to take 2000 d3 a day. Does anybody else have issues keeping iron and vitamin d up and What has worked for you? Thanks :)

Keli - I have had both low ferritin and Vitamin D in the past. I have had to take Vitamin D daily for years or it drops back down. 2,000 D3 per day didn't get my numbers up; I had to take the high doses like 100,000 IU's per week. As for the ferritin, the doctor didn't want to treat the ferrtin because it hadn't affected my iron level yet, but I thought that was stupid and bought some ferrous sulfate anyway. I'd had RLS for two years and didn't know the cause, then I found out that low ferritin can cause it. I took the ferrous sulfate and the RLS went away within two weeks. I don't have it tested often enough to know where the numbers are, but I take ferrous sulfate a few times a week to keep it up a bit.

I think that many of us with autoimmune disorders have problems with absorbing vitamins from food which is why we often have low vitamin levels. I struggle with many of mine quite often and have a whole arsenal of vitamins and minerals that I take daily.

I have taken 1600 IU a day/ 112000 IU/wk for about the last 6 months.
Last time I had levels checked in July they were 75 nmol/L.
When I started supplementing 3 years ago my level was 36 nmol/L. I took just over 80,000IU a week but never got my level above 51 nmol/L.
