Vitamin C? was created by debrasla
I googled today "how can I raise my platelets?"(for my son actually). I found that if you take 1000mg of Vitamin C a day and also eat red fruits and veges and change the diet(no junk food), that the platelets may rise? I am going to mention to my 22 year old son about this and maybe that might help raise his platelets after the Winroe?

maybe we are grasping for straws, but I did read it:)

The Vitamin C myth has been around since I started here 14 years ago. I haven't seen anyone really benefit from it. I tried it...didn't work. However, it doesn't hurt and can help symptoms for some people.

Many have also tried Pineapple juice. That was big in the early 2000's.

I do the vitiman C thing. Not sure if it has any direct affect on Platelets. I have been in the 160-200k range for the past 21/2 years. Last Rituxin treatment was 21/2+ years ago.

Eating healthy is always a good idea, for lots of reasons, but I have never seen a reliable study that supports the notion that Vitamin C impacts ITP favorably. And, were it that easy, you would expect there to be lots of such studies. Counts bounce around a lot on their own and correlation is not causation.

I remember when the Vitamin C thing first started to circulate, in the 70s. I took enough Vitamin C to sink a battleship but unfortunately it never worked. Vitamin C replaced the "drink white grape juice" fad (I remember my parents carting cases of white grape juice into our house and I was told "start drinking").

That said, I'll try anything (and have tried everything) at least once. Each of us has to make his or her own decision.
