ITP and Thyroid

ITP and Thyroid was created by byersj21
OK.. I'm new here and my name is Jamie. I'm a 30 year old male that was diagnosed with ITP back in early May 2010. They started treatment right away, because I had petechia and my platelets were at 4k. They put me on a 100mg of prednisone and that pretty much kicked my butt. After one week.. 59k and then 2 weeks later 40k and 1 week later 13k and probably 5 days later 18k. I'm taking folic acid vitamins and I just weened off the prednisone, because it simply wasn't working. They have run all kinds of test and ruled everything else out, but what they failed to check in the beginning was my thyroid.

I had it in my chart that my mother/brother/niece all had thyroid issues and 2 of those were hyper and one hypo. Now I found out that my other brother had hypo and my grandmother had thyroid issues as well. I have been telling them and they finally ran my TSH at my specialist, but she didn't do the other test.

I think it was .3 there and the next time I checked at my regular dr. it was .27 and on top of that, my T3 abd T4 were over active. They want me to come back to do another panel, but do you think this is what caused my ITP. I have read other post where people linked the two.. but I went from 213 to 203 in two weeks.. granted, I have been eating less and better foods, but still 3 meals a day.

I'm scared to eat bad anymore. I have had the signs of hyperthyroid.. well over 28 symptoms, but the Dr's seem to move slow about it. I quit the specialist, because they want to take my spleen out or give me some kind of expensive chemo, which I cannot afford right now. Only thing I'm doing now is taking blood well and restore immune II and will be starting Adrenoboost tomorrow..

The last thing I'm going to try.. if my thyroid is normal, which I don't think it is.. is Biotracker Technology. A lady online talks about it.. gives out a free e-book about her daughter Viv. Sounds like you can find out what imbalances you have in your body that could be causing you to respond with this autoimmune disease. For me, I know I haven't ate well over the years.. and I'm 6'1" at 203.. where I should be more like 180, plus I haven't been exercising like I should, even though I was playing football up until 2009 and bowling.. but I work for myself and I have alot of stress and that week I noticed it, my computer had went down and I had a commercial to finish by Friday and I can't describe the stress I had.

Anyway.. I apologize for the long winded summary here, but I had to get this out there. I'm so sick of dealing with this.. I have a business to run and 2 children to play with and a wife that needs help when I get home.

Thanks,

Jamie

Jamie:

There are a few people here who have thyroid issues and ITP. Sometimes getting the thyroid under control will help with ITP, sometimes not. The literature suggests that it does, but experiences here show that is not always the case. It's worth a try and sounds like you need to do that any way.

While going with alternative therapy can be beneficial, it's best to try traditional treatments in the beginning and see what happens. There are many scams out there and they can actually end up being harmful, so you want to get good specialists in both areas and try what they suggest before venturing out with internet "cures".

Neither of those conditions are curable, but there are remissions. You need to find out if you have Graves or Hashimoto's...just knowing that you are hypo or hyper isn't good enough. There are antibody tests that should be run.

Everyone gets sick of dealing with health issues (there are plenty of them here) and we all have busy lives. The best advice I have is to find out exactly what you are dealing with, find the best possible way to treat and try to live as normally as you can. There are no easy cures for any of the autoimmune issues a lot of us have, but we do the best we can and keep plugging away.
