ITP Diet Recommendations Wanted

So a little about my story...I am a 27 year old female and for the past three years, I have been seeing an hematologist on a regular basis. This started after I had a routine set of labs done for my insurance at work, which showed the low platelet counts. Since that time, I have had my blood checked regularly. My platelets have been over 140K once. My typical range can vary anywhere from 45-80K. My only other symptoms are fatigue and bruising, both of which vary. I have not taken any drugs or had any procedures for ITP during this time. Last week, my count was 59K, and my hematologist released me. I was told to "go and live my life" and only be seen if I start having bleeding issues. I am not overly concerned with being released, as I haven't found much benefit in only having regular blood checks. It is not too concerning for me to be released from his care, as I feel more educated about ITP than I did three years ago.

Right now, I am struggling with my weight and increased blood pressure. I would like to lose 30-35 pounds. I know a significant change in my diet is needed, but I want to make a lifestyle change that will also help my platelets and energy levels. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best types of foods to eat, beverages to drink? Recipe suggestions? Foods to avoid? I have found some information online, but I wanted to see if anyone in this forum can give me any additional tips to start making these changes.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Well, there are so many ways to go depending on what you read and believe. I've recently done the same thing. I have decided to go gluten free and avoid night shades. My goal is to eliminate chronic inflammation and control autoimmune issues (Lupus). Weight loss would be an added benefit.

In all of my research, I have found articles to support avoiding: Gluten, dairy, meat, chicken, carbs, and night shades. That pretty much leaves you with just fruits, vegetables and fish. That might be a bit over board. If your goal is weight loss and lower blood pressure, there are so many diets to follow it makes your head spin. The one that makes the most sense to me is to limit salt, sugar, processed foods, carbs, breads, and desserts. Eat more vegetables and fish. Start juicing. Exercise.

That's my input.

My boyfriend and I started juicing, since we didn't think we were getting enough fruits and vegetables. It is time consuming but delicious.

Even though I often feel fatigued, I try to workout 4 days a week, even if this means just walking around the neighborhood if I'm really tired that day. It has definitely helped my blood pressure. Yesterday was the best it has been since jan!
