I'm very thankful for this board, the support and the humor! I definitely feel more empowered and not so alone in this. So thank you for starting this suppport system.
I did want to share something about my journey. I know each of us is on our individual treatment programs, but we have similarities. Like dealing with the side effects of the "wonderful" medicines that help us stay in remission.
I'm on prednisone (60mg/day). When I first was diagnosed 25 years ago I was given no nutritional counseling - zero zip nada! Now being 25 years older and wiser(?) I'm on to the importance of nutrition.
I've learned, like many others on here, that the steroids mess with our sugar. So even for those who aren't diabetic, our sugar levels are messed with. I've been talking with an RD on how to level them out with a lower carb diet. I've been able to lose 5 lbs so far. My intent was not to lose weight but to maintain since I knew going on the steroids the scales may inch up.
So I just wanted to put it out there that there is a way eat right to negate the effects of at least prednisone. I know not everyone can reap this benefit, but I just wanted to encourage those on this journey to do your own research on nutrition and learn how your body works.
25 years remission!
