Amber,

That just flat stinks! I am sorry for you, but I am certain that you will be fine. This shall be the treatment that works for you.

I promise you that I will post a message to you everyday while you are in the hospital. What I have that is that interesting to tell you about, I don't have a clue! But, I will try to help keep you company.

My plan of scaring the lab techs for better counts sounds like it was good plan! You will be fine young lady. Just hang in there!

Amber, it really is not fair, but we will all get through this together, family.....of an ITP sort!

Sorry about the drop in your count. Good news is you do know why your cold. Low in iron would make you col. I'd give you some of my platelets but not sure I have many to spare here's hoping they start going up again!

Amber, This is my first reply although I have been reading this site for a while and following your story. I want to give you some encouragement as I had my spleen removed about 39 years ago and have been in ITP remission until this past spring. Prednisone didn't work that time (had worked with my first itp 10 years prior) so they injected me with radioactive platelets and found them all in my spleen. (UC Davis) So, my spleen was removed. I really have had no problems being "spleenless" no more than normal infections, etc. I have lived a normal wonderful life without a thought of living without a spleen--until now, of course. This round of ITP I have been on prednisone (still weaning off), ivig, rituxan (4) and currently have platelets of 14. We are in the wait and watch. I have a wonderful hematologist. Promacta is next if necessary. But 39 years symptom-free, I couldn't ask for more.

Anyway, hang in there, believe it will work. Life is good and will get even better for you.

Hey amber - reading these posts I just want to give you a big hug! This really does suck!

I'm with Jeffrey - I'll keep you company via this post next week. I'm in hospital too all week for an indium scan so will have plenty of time to come and chat! Not that I'll have anything more interesting than coffee & kindle talk!

I really hope that this is the one for you! A treatment that will keep you in a good place for a long time. Thinking of you x

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.

Hi Amber,
When you read stories like Ruth's, you know remissions are possible! (Ruth, that's a wonderful story and thanks for sharing).

Sometimes it's hard to understand why we go through all this, but just try to keep as positive as you can. And, make sure you take care of yourself through all this. Will be praying for you and that you will be well soon.

Amber!

I hope you have had a good (well as good as possible) Saturday! It SNOWED here! It put down enough quick enough to make the roads slick and messy. I deplore snow! And I think less of cold weather!

Not too much else going on today here in the Midwest. Any news on your surgery or counts and such? How are you feeling today? Dogs all good? :)

My doctor told me to go to emergency because my count was 14. Looks like a few of us may be in hospital this week! Going to try and figure out how to access internet if I go in. I posted on the other thread that laughter helps in healing so here goes my first stupid joke to try and cheer you up!

What did the cookie say to the doctor??

I'm feeling a little crummy!

Hope everything goes well and this ITP becomes just a memory for you!

Winnifred - i know there's no wifi at my hospital. Drives me nuts! Does make me wonder how people survived 20 (or even 10 I suppose!) years ago. No kindle - just one book! No google - no chance of remembering who that tall man in the waiting room reminds you of - you know the one - he was in that programme (maybe this is just me though lol). No iPad - have to walk all the way to the shop for a newspaper. Thank goodness for modern technology!!

Amber - Hope you've had an ok night and managed to get some sleep. I can only imagine how you must be feeling. Hope it helps to know we're all thinking of you and praying this works for you hun. You have a whole community rooting for you!! Xx

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer a paper book to read! For all of my surgeries, I took my book, a couple of puzzle books and my plastic canvas to work on. Even here at home, I read at night when I go to bed.

I got an Ativan injection last night and was asleep in 45mins. Was woken up about 5 times but was able to go back to bed. I am waiting n nurse to ask what counts were last night. Should be getting pres meds about 9am then IVIG's about 10am. Most definitely will ask for Ativan injection tonight it helped me sleep and de stress.

CindyL - you're old fashioned!! ;-) ;-) i used to feel the same about books but there is something so liberating about carrying over 150 books in my pocket to choose from. My kindle really came into its own when I was admitted to hospital last year. If you love books then don't even try it - there's no going back lol!

Amber - I said it on your other post but just for a double whammy; good luck for today!
