Has anyone had "occasional nucleated red blood cells" noted on their lab results? I am not sure what this means but am concerned about bone marrow implications from Revolade. This is the first time I have seen this noted and have been on Revolade for about 4 years. I was in clinic last Monday and all of the lab work looked okay at that point. My platelets were 197 then and 3 by Friday. I had a cold with a very low grade fever which I attribute to the drastic drop. Thanks!

dyan, can't comment on the red blood cells. As you may know one issue with Revolade/Promacta is scarring of the bone tissue (aka reticulin ). When this occurs it is reflected as a need for a progressively higher dose to maintain the same count. There is another issue with reticulin too. I think it is 'giant plates' noted on the smear. Other's probably know. Bone biopsy confirms.

I was reading through old posts. You commented
'The doctor thinks it may have been the combination of taking steroids in early October when they threw various treatments at me to get the bleeding to stop.'
The combination of Revolade/Nplate and steroids seems to work well with some folks - see row 2 in my ITP table. I would wonder if taking a small omount of Pred for a short time might help to lower your 75mg dose if reticulin is not the issue.

Dyan:

I have had many flagged CBC's over the years and my rule is to not worry about labs unless my doctor does. I've had some strange things that eventually normalize. Just ask him the next time you see him and try not to stress, ok?
