Home after splenectomy

today my son's count is 43k , he will do the surgery 7:30 am tommorow , surgan spoke with us that his itp might came back after years , and he told my that one of the complication is bencryas can be enjured, he said it's rare but still one of the complication, im so worry, pray for us

Hi Farida,

The best of luck for your son tomorrow! Don't worry to much! Please tell your son it is not as bad as it seems..!! The recovery goes very fast and the pain is not that bad concidering the type of surgery..
I'm not religous so I don't pray but I will think about your son tomorrow and I am sure he will be fine!

8 days after surgery:

I quit taking the pain killers after 4/5 days but yesterday the pain around the scares and in my side where to severe so I took some pain killers.. I was so bored at home so today I decided to go to school.. I was planning on only staying for one or two classes but when I was there I had so much fun I stayed untill the last class.. It was a very very long day.. I left the house at 07.15 and came back at 05.00 o'clock.. So it was a very very long day.. I was soo tired when I got home so I went to bed immediatly.. I did have a great day..!! I don't think I can remember anything the teachers told me today but oh well.. I just really needed to see my friends and classmates..

I do have a lot of pain atm.. and the side of my belly feels very hard and warm.. I'm not sure if that's a very bad sign.. Couldn't find anything about it.. It hurts but not so bad I feel like I need to go see a doctor..

Oh well.. we'll see what tomorrow brings!

my son got the surgary done , it was hard time for me , waiting and worry about him , he still in the recovery room , i saw him for 15 min , he will be back to his room may be after one hour, he still has pain, the surgan called us in the waiting room he said , everything is fine , it was laprococp surgary, thank god , his platelets was 101k in 6:00 am , but they gave him another grame of semadrol , i don't know why? im so upset , his face is swallen, from this cteroide,any way i hope the next coming days will be better for us.

yes melinda , i hope the same for him,may be i will not able to sleep, im so tired, im 50 years old, i thought after my sons grew up i will have good time, but everything went upside dowen, my son asked the doctors when it will be the next cbc, he is worry too, tommorow they will do the cbc , early morning , i try to ask the surgan if his spleen was enlarge or not, they said it wasn't larger than normal, they didn't answer the way i want,i knew that itp people they should have small spleen, i don't know if tow days of ivig make his spleen not to be small, i don't know ,i ran my selef crazy, my older son send me and my husband home and he will take care of him this night,thank you joya for your wishes

i don't know why they didn't cbc today, or this is normal to do cbc the after the surgary
i will be crazy with this itp,

Farida you should really stop stressing about every little thing.. You have to think of your own health as well every once in a while.. If the doctor said his spleen wasn't enlarged then it probably wasn't.. Mine wasn't enlargerd either..
When I had the surgery they also did the CBC the morning after surgery.. So I think that's normal

my son's count is 157k ,18 hours after surgery ,i know it should be shoot up more, is there a time frame to shoot up, or that is mean he didn't respond to the splenectomy,

Give it a few days before saying it hasn't worked Farida, 18 hours is not very long. And it isn't normal for ITP people to have a small spleen, it should be a normal size so that is fine.

I agree. It is too soon to feel splenectomy did not work.

yes joya i know they should to cbc after surgery, but my son's count wasn't jumped, that is why i still worry

Farida, what do you mean, your son's count hasn't jumped? What were you expecting it to do? 157 is a great count. With any luck, they'll go up a bit higher. I hope so, for both of your sakes! Keep us posted on how your son is doing.

Farida is right that the likelihood of splenectomy success is better when the count goes way, way up early on, often going up too high. But it isn't always the case. Sometimes we've seen on the forum people whose count only slowly goes up and levels off somewhere safe.

hi everyone , i couldn't get online for the past few days so ,icouldn't update you , monday after 3 days from the surgeory my son's count jumped up to573k thank God, i was so happy , doctor said it will go up again, another cbc on next thursday, his spleen was enlarged too ,i watched the cd of the operation it was verybig

Way to go. Good news Farida.

Follow up with my hemotologist today. Platelets are now settling a bit. 442,000 today from 829,000 three weeks ago. Doctor and I are optimistic. Won't see him again for a while unless I get symptoms. Looks like it worked!!!

Great news about your son. I am thrilled for you. Now I hope you can relax.
I am having a CBC next week. My last count was 123k. No bruising so far. I am cautiously optimistic.

It is hard to relax with such a crazy disorder. This I know. But since his count is so high I don't think you have to worry at least this week. What does the doctor say? Worrying won't change things. If your son sees you upset it is not good for either one of you. Think positive..
