Off topic but I took my cat to the vet for runny eyes and the vet said this is often a type of herpes infection in cats-she gave us a lysine supplement for cats-

Sandi had the quote.
On further reading, apparently other supplements can speed healing once a break out occurs. First would be higher doses of B12 (eg 500+ mg). Others would be Zinc and Selenium for immune system T cell cloning/proliferation. As I understand, vitamin C is a general antiviral and antibiotic. D is an immune stimulant.

When I was reading Amazon reviews of Lysine, there were a number of folks talking about how great it worked for their cat(s). Apparently it works well for them too. Had to double check that I was reading about the supplement for humans.

I was probably taking Vitamin D when I had shingles, but not Vitamin C.

Ah, perfect. Would it be fair to say that Vitamin D has likely kept Shingles from recurring all these years since?

Janet you aren't hijacking :) So glad to hear you are improving. That is interesting about the woman with RA who took a biologic had VN afterwards! That does seem suspicious for your VN for sure.

Thanks for jogging my memory - now I do recall us talking about baseball & St. Louis - it has been a while, Matt Holliday went to the Cardinals in 2009 and was there through 2016 season. We all were thrilled that he came back to the Rockies this last season, boy did he get a welcome fit for a king!

You take care!

Hal, I have no idea why I haven't had shingles again. I wish I knew. I don't think it's something that everyone is doomed to get on a regular basis....something has to trigger it. I have all of those supplements and take them fairly regularly, so it would be nice if they actually worked to keep shingles away.
