Old Article Explaining Large Platelets was created by Hal9000
I ran across this old 2010 thread.

Discussion is on article "Groundbreaking research shows platelets can reproduce in circulation". I must say, a rather bold concept that I've not heard before. Perhaps someone has more current information? Disproof, or, concept verified and further refined or expanded?

What I was interested in on that study was skipping all the way down to the 'discussion' paragraph at the end. Way over my head on that one. The second link didn't work for me. It said I didn't have permission to access.

It's really an almost fantastic idea. Platelets which 'extrude' equivalent property platelets around the perimeter. Prodigy platelets which break/shear off in circulation. I could understand miniature / micro platelets as perimeter prodigy. But how in the world can they be a size similar to the parent?
