Anyone tried powdered colostrum?

I've bene searching the benefits of colostrum and the varying amounts of igG in it. I'm thinking about trying it for our son - has anyone had any experience with it at all? Or any other natural methods at all?

I heard about trying colostrum from a Chiropractor - he absolutely swore by it. I gave the info about it to my Hematologist and he told me that he has never seen any clinical studies about colostrum so he didn't know of it's benefit (but it's possible he just hasn't read any studies that may have been conducted). To be perfectly honest, my Hema didn't seem excited about the idea of me taking colostrum so I didn't do it. But from my research, I found that the Vitamin Shoppe has a colostrum pill that has a very high concentration of igG in it.

You son is 2 1/2? Have you discussed this with his doctor?

Yes, same as alaventure said, our haematologist said no studies have shown anything. if we want to do it we do it off our own back. We are an outpatient of an oncology ward and therefore part of a haematology clinic so we see a different person each time we go. Perhaps another person would of been more positive about it. In the end, considering colostrum itself is a complete food for babies, and our son has a very limited diet, we don't think it would hurt his position. We've found a powder that has a 225mg of concentration, 25% I think. He had his third infusion over the 12th and 13th of this month, July, and a few days later his count is up to 236 - the higest EVER in 10 weeks. It's amazing. The last infusion got it up to 94, the first only to 10. We're so relieved that he's okay for a while yet apprehensive about the count going down. But for now, we hope supplements, a better diet and lack of illnesses may keep his count high for a while - at least not get it low enough for another admission. Good luck to you both

as melinda said, you should check with your doctor. they are pretty well versed in natural, nonprescription, non drug company controlled remedies. actually, i think they take classes about colostrum in medical school. colostrum comes from the same place that milk comes from, so use caution. either that, or you can go the safe route and stick with steroids and chemo drugs.

Yes, my son tried it, but it did not work unfortunately.

Thought I might share my experience on this matter for all that it is worth.
Recently diagnosed with ITP. Platelet count was between 1-7 during a 10 day stay at hospital. I was on 100mg of prednisone and had 2 doses (8x200ml) of IVIg over 2 days.
On the night of my 10th day I took some powdered colustrum (and continue to take it every day) and my count was 8 the next day. The following day my count was 18 and allowed to go home. Blood test 5 days later showed a count of 141.
Did the colustrum help raise the count? Was it the prednisone finally kicking in? Or was it a combination of both helping? I will probably never know!
