Hello.

I was diagnostic ITP in March 2012. I have gone on Prednosolon since. But now I have hear-loss, who is a big problem for me. Is it someone who have the same unpleasent side effect? I want to stop taking Prednisolon, but when I say that to my doctor, he just say that i have to do spenektomy. I don't know what I should do, and I feel the doctors doesn't hear what I say.

I need some advice.

Which country are you living in? Not all treatments are available in all countries so it depends where you are what your options are. But if you can get a second opinion from another doctor that would be a start.

Well, you DO NOT have to a Splenectomy. That decision is up to you. Splenectomy for some is a last resort as it is not a guarantee for ITP. Treatments for ITP is a wait and see game. One waits to see if a treatment works. The thing with a Splenectomy is that once it is removed there is NO replacing it. The other thing is that one is more prone to illness and recovering from an illness. Do as much research as you can on treatments. Alot of info here.

Who said Prednisone caused the hearing loss?

I have hearing loss too, but it is an inherited disorder and not Prednisone related. Have you been to an ENT?

There are other choices besides Prednisone and splenectomy. Another opinion is a good idea.

Thank you for the answears. I'm from Norway. I know that it's more treatments than Prednisone and Splenectomy who is available, but the doctors say that they want to take a splenectomy before they try other treatments. Do you know if it is eny side effects on the other treatments? I don't understand why they don't give me some other medicin.

Oh dear, bit of a misunderstanding there. Sandi thought you were talking about hearing loss when you are in fact talking about hair loss. Some here have talked about hair falling out with steroids, it does grow back.

Some doctors like splenectomy and some don't. Maybe you could see a different doctor and get another opinion.

Hihi, yes that was a misunderstanding. I'm sorry.
I'm going on 5 mg Prednisone, but do you think that's the reason for my hair loss? I don't know what I should do. I don't want to loss my hair.

Ha! Yes, I did think you meant hearing loss!

Sometimes tapering from higher doses can cause hair loss, but it should stop soon and it will grow back.

ENT is short for Ear Nose Throat specialist.
