I am 26 i have had ITP for 8 years, after everything stopped working steroids, ivig, rituxub, had a splenectomy I started nplate dec 2010, with counts of 124 the friday before left for a cruise and was given my usual dose of nplate firat day on the cruise my left arm went numb and my face was drooping come to find out i had a stroke, my platelets were at 405 by now and still going up i am sharing my story because ive been told my dr should have never tried to keep my counts in a normal range just a safe range and would not wish this on anyone has anyone else had a stroke bc of the way nplate was administered?

Keli:

I'm so sorry to hear this. Have you recovered?

You're right, counts that are too high can cause problems and I sometimes feel frustrated with the reimine that some people are on....multiple meds at the same time, etc. Being asplenic can also raise the clotting/stroke risk, so people need to be careful when mixing too many meds that can cause clotting.

Have you been tested for APS? I can't remember.

I'm so sorry to hear your story. that is just terrible. Keep us posted if you can. Sounds like you deserve financial compensation. Best wishes for a full recovery.
