Okay, I have another question. I know I've been posting a lot of questions lately but it is so helpful to have this community to turn to! I really do appreciate having so many people who I can turn to for support and advice.

Now that my counts are up (hooray!) and I'm going to be induced tomorrow, my thoughts have turned to breastfeeding. Have any of you breastfed while on prednisone OR shortly after having IVIg? I am on 100mg of prednisone a day (will start tapering shortly after I deliver) and had two IVIg infusions last Saturday and Sunday. The OB said that prednisone is fine during breastfeeding. I have not asked about IVIg yet.

I put in a call to the pediatrician, so I am waiting to hear back from her and hear what she says, but if any of you have any info I'd appreciate it. I really want to be able to breastfeed and I hope that the prednisone and IVIg will not interfere with it.

Okay, the pediatrician called back. I should have just been patient and waited for her instead of posting on here, but I figured I'd post what she said in case anyone else is wondering the same thing.

She said prednisone is completely compatible with breastfeeding and IVIg is okay too, although there is not as much research done on IVIg just because it is not used particularly frequently. She said though that she didn't see how the protein in IVIg would be harmful to the baby even if it did pass through the breastmilk.

Hi Liz,
Thinking of you & hope all goes well with the delivery of your precious baby.
Good on you for choosing to breastfeed. I hope that, too, is successful & you enjoy getting to know the new little member of your family.
Best wishes from Down Under,
mj
