It's been a while. was created by Eva62
I haven't been here in a while, but some of you might remember me. I had an "acute" case of ITP several years ago. My counts have been really good for the past four years. Today, I went to the doctor for a really bad sinus infection and she did a blood count. Everything was good except that my platelets were down to 130,000. Now while I would have been grateful for this count four years ago, she wants me to go back to the hematologist. Since we all know that the people on this site are the real experts...could the sinus infection cause the small drop? I took Zitromax about a month ago for the same infection and I admit that I have been using maybe a little too much naproxen sodium.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Eva :)

Good grief, 130 is in the normal range on most scales! I'd tell her, I'll get another count in two weeks.

Eva:

Yes, the infection or the antibiotics could have caused the drop. I'd stick with the GP and just get checked again in a few weeks.

130k is not normally dangerous. I'd get another count in a week or two, before seeing a hematologist again.
Might be the infection, might just be a low-end swing in the count.

Thanks, I was thinking maybe it's too soon to call the hematologist. Does your period cause a drop in platelets?
