Hey, Steve. I've been taking the extra calcium +D since being on the pred. That's pretty much since 2004. Plus, I take a once/week pill too.

I take calcium +D +minerals 2x a day - and last year added 1000iu of vitamin D when blood work showed my level of vitamin D low. Last time I really took prednisone was in 1993 - since then I've been on it a couple times for sinus issues but only for a few days.

I'm glad your doctor ordered that bone scan - not sure how many do.

Good count!

My Rheumatologist insists on a bone density every year. So far, so good, even though my D level is low (on prescription doses) and I am on steroids constantly.

Take the Calcium and D - I'd imagine they would help or they would have put you on Fosamax or one of the other bone builders.

I take Calcium and D too. My doctor says that you can only absorb 500 mg at a time, so it's important to split your dose up. I was getting muscle cramps and she said that the calcium would help. They've improved a lot now that I'm careful not to take the calcium all at once.
