Meredith if you use the search tab above you will probably find some info on h-pylori.
I have had ITP since 1989 and do not have it.

Trouble is it seems to trigger ITP but when eradicated the ITP doesn't go away.

I was diagnosed with ITP with counts as low as 1 in 2011. Steroids, IVIG, and prayers got my counts back to normal a week later. I requested an H Pylori test and it was positive. I irradiated the H Pylori. During treatment my count dropped to 150, but then bounced back and has been between 190 and 240 ever since.

There is a possibility the IVIG caused a false positive on my H Pylori blood test, but based on how my digestive system improved after treatment, I think I had it. Results from H Pylori ITP studies vary greatly based on the country they are done in. I think there are different strains and only some are linked to ITP. The American strain appears to have no connection, but I've been to Mexico a lot and my mother lived there as a child, so I might have had a foreign strain.

I celebrated when I got my positive H Pylori results. The receptionist who gave me the printout couldn't believe I was so happy I had it.

Good luck with your results and counts. It's a roller coaster ride in slow motion until you are able to get the answers you need to plan how to take it on.

Meredith, yes my blood test was (strong?) positive for h-Pylori antibodies. LOL, besides that, I had been taking Pepto Bismal on and off for a few years before that test. Eradicating h-Pylori had no effect on counts. Nor do I believe h-Pylori triggered my ITP. The best part though was that I no longer need Pepto Bismal for stomach pains. Yes! What a relief.

Back then (2016) I researched h-Pylori reports here on this forum extensively. Of many, only two users have reported a possible remission with h-Pylori eradication. They are users 'Patrulla' and 'Dean'. But by their descriptions, the remissions could have been for other reasons besides eradication. So no definitive association. Also. Off hand, I don't recall anyone reporting h-Pylori eradication raising one's counts.

Dave's description of this subject is quite accurate and matches what I've read on h-Pylori and ITP. That is, only certain genetic strain/strains of h-Pylori seems to cause h-Pylori triggered ITP. Japan and Italy seems to be the geographic hot spots. Think contaminated 'sushi'. Yum. Not!

Lived in Tokyo, never had "contaminated" sushi or any food while there [unlike in my own home State]! Went from there to Hong Kong. Traveled into China and other locations.
I don't have h-pylori.
