SAUNA, ANY CONCERN? was created by GrouchoMarx
Dear all,
I am a Sauna lover. I spend it at least 2 times a week. I never had any problem.
Any concern for those with ITP?

I have no idea as a sauna just doesn't sound good to me :)
If you have been using one a couple times a week without a problem....
Have you asked your doctor?

I had already few doctors. As it is often the case some say ok, other say better not. Exactly like the topic about flying.
The fact is that Sauna doesnt even produce me petechia that was the concern of my doctor.

My advice is you rule your ITP. Neither it nor doctors should rule you.
As for flying:-prior to flying UK to Australia I asked my Haemo at what count she would ground me she replied “ less than 1k”

Groucho are you saying your doctor was concerned because getting in the sauna did not cause petechiae?

You ask too many doctors or people you are going to get too many answers - ask a doctor you trust & go from there.

I flew & moved to Tokyo shortly after being diagnosed & on 60mg of prednisone - MD and hematologist never said anything about flying so I never asked - flew to Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, Egypt, Italy, London, Thailand & more and inbetween flew back home for home leaves, and also moved to Hong Kong. Took jet foils, trams, boats, trains and never thought to ask if ok. But I would not recommend what I did to an ITPer, they have to make their own decisions along with their doctor/s.

The doctor was concerned I might get petechia after sauna.... but I just dont know if it can increase a chance to have a brain hemorrhage. It seems to me that the risk is negligible without hitting your head.

Did you ask your doctor about the possibility of a sauna increasing the chance of a brain bleed?
If you are not comfortable going into a sauna because you have ITP then you should not go in! You need
to do what you feel is best for you.

My current doctor is overcautious and I dont always agree with him. For instance, he doesn't allow me to flight with less than 50.000 or go to Gym. My previous doctor was great and allowed me sauna and Gym. So, at the end I decide what is better form me.... I still have a live..

However, I wanted to know what are other people experience on the matter. In a Facebook page of an ITP group a woman said she goes regularly to Sauna and Steem bath without any problem with a count of 25.000....
Any other comment or experience on the matter?
:)

I read your message mrsb04 and it was very encouraging since I believe exactly the same.
Regarding doctor, believe me, my current one is the best presencial doctor i had. The other presencial doctors drugged me with corticoids without a clear objective. This one took me out with counts over 30000.
The only and best doctor I had was a non presencial one (paid by my insurance since I was on extended business trip) with whom I interacted by phone.
However, it seems to me that in the field of ITP USA is better served with good knowledgeable doctors than in Eastern Europe. I can't be very picky. My current one is in Spain and interact with him by email while I am abroad.
Wish I had better as you know :(
