Platelet drop?

My daughter 4 now was diagnosed almost 6 months ago with ITP. She was at a blood count of 8.
Today we went in for our monthly blood draw and she is up to 206,000. Such great news today! But now it seems we celebrated too soon. She has new odd bruising and a bit of dark petichae in the middle of her shoulder blades on her back.
Is this normal at 200,000?
I know that is a low normal for platelets.
My son also has hand foot and mouth so I’m wondering if she is fighting it off and her body may have been higher and then just dropped?
Ugh I’m always guessing.

Corrie - you just had a count done today? If so, then it's unlikely that her symptoms are ITP-related. How long after her count did you notice the symptoms?

Dark petechiae sound like they may be older than a day, are you just seeing them now? But this is a question I have too - how wildly can counts oscillate? Can a kid (or adult) be at 3k one day and 30k the next, and 100k the next, and back down to 20k the next?

Counts can drop pretty quickly, but you have to consider the trend that you've been seeing and the situation. If a person has IVIG and they have counts of 220k, they can drop to below 10k in a few days. However, if a person has counts of 220k and has been holding it for a while, it's unlikely that counts will drop that quickly (although it can happen due to an illness, medication or vaccine). Counts normally fluctuate and counting is not an exact science. People have had two different counts even from the same blood sample.

The thing to remember is that low counts are not a medical emergency. Symptoms can be depending on what they are. If your child is being medically monitored and you are vigilant, then you're already doing all that you can and should be doing.
