ITP and Anemia

ITP and Anemia was created by Moe1327
I've been taking promacta for about 3 mo., but have also been dealing with severe anemia and have had 2 iron infusions. Dr. recently did a blood smear and I received results online. I'm not sure what it means, but I'm sure dr will go over. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and know what results mean. Anisocytosis 2+, Polychromasia, Ovalocytes, Tear Drop Cells say occasional and large platelets.

My platelet count has been around 45 to 50. Dr. wants to try Rituximab infusions. Anyone one else done this?
Just looking for support from others who understand.

If your counts are low and you have or have had active bleeding that can cause the anemia. The large platelets are normal for ITP, large ones are new. Since the platelets are getting destroyed quickly your size goes up. Rituximab is a normal treatment option for ITP. I have had it twice, others have chosen not to take it. That is a decision for you and your doctor to make. I suggest you look through the treatment threads to get familiar with all the options. If you are not having symptoms with a count above 50 many would not treat at all. I could not stay above 20 and had active bleeding so I had to treat.
Steroids
Rituximab
Promacta
IVIG (short term fix only)
NPlate
Spleen Removal
Plus others I can't remember right now.

Thank you for your response. I see my doctor next week to go over options. I want to come off the promacta because it gives me a headache and it's expensive. Since it just my numbers steady so dr. thinks as soon as I stop taking it my numbers will drop. I have no bleeding, just some bruising.
