Platelet count under 5,000 and flying? was created by jcortez88
Good evening ITP warriors! My platelet count today is 3,000, i have a flight to catch this Friday but my hematologist won't give me an answer till Friday morning, my hematologist did put me on a higher dose of Prednisones.
Has anyone here had a problem getting on a plane with a platelet count under 5,000?
What did your hematologist recommend?
Not sure what to do. Any advice would help!
Thanks ITP Warriors!

My son was 23k when we fly to China. Doctor gave him amicar just in case he has nose bleeding. The flight was ok, so we end up not using it. Sorry don't know about 5k. I also have these with me in case he has a nose bleeding:

All I can tell you is that one of the ITP Specialists once stated that he believes it's safe to fly with any count. Other doctors are more cautious and do not think flying is a good idea. This is a decision that you will have to make with your doctor.
