TIP and Dehydration was created by SewSwells
Hello, my name is Sydney, i was diagnosed with TIP when I was 15. I'm currently 20 and working in a warehouse. I constantly have bruises now and I keep finding small red dots. I last had my blood checked 2 years ago when I had surgery. I can't see my old doctor because he was in a children's hospital and I'm now an official adult. Anyways I was curious if I should schedule an appointment with my family doctor to check my platelet levels, to check for dehydration from working 10 hours in a Texas warehouse, and to find a new blood specialist. I'm not 100% sure if I'm dehydrated, but I get dizzy and I get headaches every now and then. I heard that itp can affect if you are dehydrated. Please let me know what you guys think I should do.

Of course you can call your GP and ask him for a CBC. That would be a great place to start. If your counts are down, he could then refer you to a Hematologist.

As for the dehydration, it doesn't have anything to do with platelets. You could start drinking more water and Gatorade. That might fix the problem before you even get to the doctor. I would imagine that dehydration isn't a permanent state. It probably comes and goes with your sweat levels and the amount that you hydrate on any particular day.

Sydney, do you take Aspirin, Acetaminophen, or Ibuprofen for the headaches? That is, what works? How often do they happen? How long have they been troubling you? I would definitely get a handle on whether the headaches are from dehydration.

You talk about bruising and petechia. Is it worse now then before, or about the same? How low have your counts gone when untreated?

I did go to the doctors and apparently my vitamin d is low and so is my count. I'm currently waiting for a referral to a hematologist. The headaches have gone away, but now I get dizzy spells. I think the headaches were due to dehydration but I've been drinking more water lately.
