How long have you had ITP for?

  • I was diagnosed at just three years old and have lived with ITP for 26 years. Doctors have often referred to me as the "exotic one" because they believe my case and experience with ITP differs from most. I am married and have a beautiful baby boy.

I've had ITP for 34 years now (and still dealing with it!). Diagnosed somewhere around age 8 and just turned 42. I've got 3 boys ages 15, 12, 10 (all ITP pregnancies as well). Nice to see you here :)

I was diagnosed when 17 after having knee surgery. Should of been a day op but was in for 5 days due to bleeding.

I'm now 37 and had a splenectomy a month ago due to my spleen becoming enlarged.

It was 25cm in length and was basically crushing various organs such as my stomach and small intestines as well as screwing around with my blood as well making my and life very difficult.

Due to me also having CVID and having weekly IVIG Infusions having my spleen removed won't really effect me like most people so it was a no brainer having it removed.

Unfortunately due to the size they had to perform open surgery to remove my spleen. They also had to have me back in surgery a few days later because of internal bleeding.

Hopefully with my spleen being removed my ITP will be in remission, only time will tell

45 years . Back in the day when spleen removal and prednisone was the only answer - thankfully things have changed.
