Personally, I think those pills are dangerous. I knew a healthy 34 year old woman who died of a heart attack while using diet pills. I'd check with your doctor.

Any drug has the potential to cause thrombocytopenia, so I cannot tell you that they would be safe on that end. The steroid weight will drop off soon and there are things you can do to help that happen safely. Steroids cause water retention and that will go away the longer you are off of the drug. Avoid salt and sugar, eat healthy, stay active....

I agree with Sandi here, just stick coffee if you want a natural slimming pill.

Really. They aren't just ones from the Internet they are from a doctor at a slimming centre near where I live, would you still think they aren't safe?
Before being diagnosed with ITP I had lost 3 stone since being on the steroids I've put on a stone it's so annoying! I've been off them now two weeks I just want to lose what I put on quickly. Thanks

Having been working on weight loss myself, there is no magic pill. A slimming centre sounds like a place that would be motivated to make money from patients desperate to lose weight and market things like diet pills and diuretics. If your weight gain is from steroid use and excessive hunger during your steroid course, you should see it gradually decrease as you settle back into your normal habits. It will take time though. I am always most bothered by the moon face that I get after taking steroids. It's very disheartening, I know!

In general, the only way to achieve long term weight loss is to move more (exercise or just more activity in your daily routine) and to eat the right foods. 50 calories of broccoli is absolutely filling whereas 50 calories of bread or cookies leaves you still very hungry. There are calorie counting apps and websites that can help you analyze what you are eating now (something like myfitnesspal.com) and give you a good idea of ways that you might improve your current diet. It's a long, slow process with many stumbling blocks along the way. Doing it the long way sure makes me wish that there were some kind of a pill that could target our fat and magically shrink me down. But really, in the long run, I am looking to achieve good health, and that is something to be learned and practiced along the way.

Best of luck to you!

This would be the safest, healthiest way to lose weight. Steroids cause water retention. Lemon is a natural diuretic, so adding lemon to water several times a day might speed up the water loss. Try that for two weeks, and add 30 minutes of exercise/walking each day. Try eating fruits and vegetables and cut out carbs and sugar. If you see results after two weeks....keep going. It's harder than taking a pill, but much healthier in the long run. I've done this and the weight dropped off. I have been on 15 mg's of Prednisone for years (not for ITP), and am about 10 pounds overweight. When it starts to creep up, I get back with the plan.

Hi Ma, Thanks for posting- its a very good question! I agree that changes in diet is the only way to safely lose weight and keep it off. But absolutely, I know how it is to want to lose weight fast- I often feel that way! but really its not usually worth it.
Consider this: what if you take the slimming tablets and it drops your platelets? Then you'll be back on steroids- that would be so frustrating.
I gained 30 lbs on prednisone that equals 2.14 stone. It took over one year but it did all come off. I think about half of it or 1 stone came off in the first few months. That was likely water weight gain. My body fat redistributed so it was more comfortable. It takes time as everything gets back into balance after steroids. But to really lose the weight I had to quit eating sugary sweets and increase my vegetables and salads- no fast food, just simple unprocessed food. Also I've had success with not eating after 7pm, not eating before bed. You eat 12 hours, then fasting for 12 hours per day. Its not so terribly hard and you can lose weight that way. good luck with whatever you decide!

Thank for coming back to me. I only have a stone to lose as that what I've put on being on the steroids, I think it's annoyed me more as before being diagnosed I lost over 3 stone. I was doing so well not that I'm big but I would like to lose the stone I've put on. I think your right staying clear of the pills and this is just a quick fix and could end up giving me more problems. I'm on a low carb diet which I've been doing for a week which seems to be helping. Thank you for your help.
