Hand sanitizer and drop in counts was created by amberyard
I've noticed that I've been having to use more hand sanitizer at work so I don't get sick. I also noticed my counts always drop, my counts are dropping and refuse to go to er. I'm not bleeding but blood blisters always start up in my mouth in the teens and single digits.

Anyone else?

I use hand sanitizer at regularly at work. I have never noticed any signs or symptoms that would suggest it was lowering my platelets.

I'm also a bad judge due to the fact that I can be in single digits and only have 1 bruise, and I don't get regular blood work.

I am curious though about long term effects of using it for years and years. I often wonder if there is a side effect we do not know about!

Different hand sanitizers contain different active ingredients. I would be least concerned with the ones that use ethyl alcohol (ethanol) as that is also the active ingredient in alcoholic beverages. This would include the most popular brand, PurellTM . However, the inactive ingredients can be toxic to some degree. Better yet, a hip flask of EverclearTM or Golden GrainTM should do the trick, and you'll be prepared for when your shift is over!

It wouldn't surprise me. I've seen some articles about some hand sanitizers causing thyroid problems. if that's possible, it could affect anything.
