Caught a cold..HELP was created by knastasja
Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask around and check if there are others who are affected by common illnesses such as the cold/congestion and the flu and the best way to deal with this. I managed to go a whole year without catching a cold or getting the flu (although I work with children), however a few days ago, I came down with a bad cold that has only been getting worse. My counts are between 60 and 90 thousand, so not horrible, but Hemo stressed to stay away from pain meds like aspirin (duh) and other over the counter things.

I know that my immune system is weak and down all the time with my ITP but how do I fight this cold without meds? All I want to do is sleep. I am so weak and tired and congested, it's indescribable. I will get my count checked tomorrow but not sure how to fight the fatigue and boost my immune system in a holistic/natural way. Any tips?

ITP usually doesn't cause an impaired immune system, but the treatments can.

All you can do is ride it out. Take some Vitamin C, use saline nasal sprays and sleep when you can.

I take a little Vitamin D (a hormone) when a cold or fever seems to be coming on. It has an anti-histamine quality - which can help clear out the nasal passages.
