Chicken pox in adults with itp was created by Carly
Hi I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had chicken pox before when having itp? I am not immune to chicken pox but I have two young children, one of which is starting nursery next year and I'm a little worried incase i get it whilst having itp.

I don't think it's worth worrying about. If it happens, you'd deal with it like you would any other illness.

If you are on Prednisone though, you'd need to be extra careful about exposure because the steroid can raise the risk.

The rate of serious complications from chickenpox is greater for adults, and greater still for adults taking immunosuppressants (which I assume includes prednisone). However, patients taking immunosuppressants usually should not take the vaccine, as it is a live (though attenuated) vaccine.

I take it your young children are not vaccinated.

What s your platelet count - are you taking med for ITP?

I did get shingles 2x, once years after ITP hit - didn't mess with my count, I was not taking prednisone or anything though.
