High altitude training was created by blings
Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help me out. I do have itp and have had it for many years. I am training heavily at the moment for a race and my coach has The team training at high altitude. I recently had my platelets checked and they were very low for me. My question is does anyone know if training at a high alitiude can affect them? I feel fantastic and was really surprised at the results.
If anyone has ideas please share

You might want to have a moderator move this to the Adult Section - right now it is in the PDSA News & Forum Suggestions so not many are going to see it.

There have been people here who feel their count went down when they were in high altitude - I live in high altitude and go higher when we go in the mountains, I haven't seen any difference. Also lived at sea level and my count didn't go higher because of that.

When you say high altitude what do you mean? And what altitude were you before training? Also if you went to a very high altitude without first allowing your body to acclimate that is not good, one can get altitude sickness.

Did you have a count right before you went to the high altitude so you could compare?

I would talk to your doctor about it. This subject comes up once in a while, but not often. Here is an older discussion:

Thanks for your reply Melinda
I am new to this site so still figuring it out.
I live in Dubai and invoked in a sport called dragon boating. We are currently training for the world titles. Part of training to help recover is going into a high altitude chamber and doing our cardio work out. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced a drop in platelets if been training at a high altitude. We went in for 12 days in row and each day the altitude rose so got to about 4500m. Now we go in 2/3 times a week at approx 2500m.
I have been googling and getting good and bad information. I am currently waiting for my dr to call me back.
Thanks again. Belinda

Lived in Hong Kong - loved watching the dragon boat races!

I honestly don't recall anyone here who would go to a higher altitude to train - just a couple who said they went to a higher altitude and their count went down.

I think you would have needed a count done before you started and one now that you have been in the chamber to know for sure.

Usually I hover in the 60-80 but it dropped to 37. Dr not worried and neither am I but just wondering if this could of been the reason. You train at a high altitude to help your body recover and it builds oxygen
