High Cholestrol was created by Lady Elly
My cholesterol is 240, with LDL 157, and HDL 62. I am not able to take any cholesterol lowering statins. I would like to know if there is any safe natural vitamins that can be taken with I.T.P. My platelet levels are below 10K most of the time. Prior to coming down with I.T.P., I was taking Omega 3 which helped to keep cholesterol lower. However, I can not take Omega 3 now which will thins the blood.

Has anyone used Policosonal (natural vitamin) and is it safe to use with low platelets?

Thank you for any suggestions that you might have.

As far as I know, there aren't any vitamins that will reliably lower cholesterol and improve HDL/LDL numbers. Niacin seems to help some people some of the time, but it is not without problems. Additionally, you run the risk of giving yourself too much of a particular vitamin and thus create a new problem while trying to resolve a known issue.

Have you talked with your doctor about dietary modification? Dietary approaches along the lines of the DASH diet or the Mediterranean diet are often useful for reducing total cholesterol and improving HDL/LDL numbers. In the same fashion, weight reduction is often helpful if you're overweight.

Also, are you on any medication that has elevated cholesterol or HDL/LDL as a side effect? If you are, you could take that up as a potential way to address the problem.
