HowAre You Taking Control Of Your ITP? was created by ThePlateletPrincess
I know some of you have been dealing with ITP for years, while for others this is all brand new. So I ask, what it is that you do for yourself to help make this a better process? The doctors are there doing what they have learned to do which is find away to make you better but you know your body they best, so what is it you do for yourself?

Hi PP,

I am not living with ITP. It visits occasionally. I have had 3 instances of low platelets, summer 2001, spring 2006, Feb 2016. So two long remissions and hoping I get the same this time.

I haven't had a lot of control when it is active, but I have a great doc who explains and listens. Am diabetic and had a very hard time with steroids first go around so we skipped it second time, we started with ivig this time but dropped like a rock two days later so 80mg prednisone and application for approval for Nplate but still waiting to start that.

Mostly you have to tell doc with brutal honesty your complete history and if you will follow recommendations or not. Never say you will take meds but skip them and NEVER hide symptoms from doc.

Write down questions you have ahead of time. Take someone with you to help you remember the answers and directions if you can. You will not remember or may be confused. Some meds have that affect.

Best of luck. Listen to your body and tell your doc what it tells you. No one is ultimately responsible for your health but you.

Above all relax and destress all you can.
