Yesterday I cut my finger and had to have stitches. At the ER they wanted to give me a tetanus shot but I was unsure if that was ok so I didn't get one. I am currently on Nplate and have read some vaccines should not be taken. Does anyone know if a tetanus shot would be ok to have? I could still go to my GP tomorrow to get it.
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

A tetanus shot could affect your platelets. Someone, I think Melinda, was thrown out of remission by one. I had a temporary platelet drop from one. Tough call.

I had to have one a few years ago and did fine. If you are stable on N-Plate, it might be a good idea to get the shot. What did you get cut on...glass, nail?

Actually it was on a very heavy door. The ER doc said I must have been pulling my hand out when it was closing. Someone checked the door after it happened and they could not find anything sharp that could have done this. It cut a slit which looks something like a knife cut. I see my hemo in the morning for my Nplate shot. I don't know how stable I am as my numbers keep going up and down.

I would have it and take the consequences. You really don't want to risk getting tetanus. If it does throw your count off, the Nplate will sort it.

Thanks for asking the question, Renee. It's timely for me.
As I was digging in the garden with my hands just the other day, it occurred to me how that's a common way to acquire tetanus. I don't remember having a tetanus shot in my entire adult life.
Now that NPlate has me in safe territory, I'll definitely consider getting a tetanus shot at my summer general checkup.

Janet - garden gloves! I use them to protect myself from bacteria, but also to keep me from getting bit by spiders and other nasty bugs.

My thought was the same as Ann - you are on a treatment.

Yes a tetanus booster did take me out of my little "remission" and tanked my counts - but I will say the one I had 10 years before that one did not bother my count, that's ITP for you. Sandi did fine with hers, I did fine with mine in '92 and did bad in '02. So who knows how ones body will react to something at any given time.

Good luck!
