Count still up!!!!! was created by TerriC14
My daughter had IV solumedrol (2 doses) with IVIG in the middle on 2/12 and 2/13 ass a rescue treatment after a platelet count of 1 and GI bleeding. Her platelet count on 2/17 was 271. She is almost done with her prednisone taper, 6 more days including today of 10 mg daily. Her platelet count on Monday 3/2 was 291! I was pretty sure it was not low because she is not bruised or showing the signs of low counts, but I am surprised it is that high. Repeat count in 3 weeks!
I am not sure how long it will last but it is sure a nice break right now!
Just curious, other than one dose of IVIG which raised her count briefly to 45 which dropped back to 10 in 2.5 weeks, this is her first experience with treatment. If this protocol were to be used again would the response be similar? Or do you "build up a tolerance." Or no rhyme or reason to any of it.

Terri:

Great news! Prednisone responses generally stay the same, but there are times when it can quit working and there is no rhyme or reason to it. That is rare. I don't think people build up a tolerance, I think a change in response would have more to do with a change in the antibodies of the disorder itself. That's my theory anyway.
