Moon Face was created by Hernas
I know everyone reacts differently to prednisone but when does this moon face go away? I'm taking 37.5 mg of prednisone per day and still have moon face. Very embarrassing when people stare. My platelets are at 169,000 as of 2 days ago. Any advice? Thanks in advance and have a wonderful Wednesday. :)

It can take a while after you are completely off of Prednisone. It starts to go away slowly as you taper, but it takes a while.

Hernas,
How long were you on prednisone before the lovely moon face appeared? I am new to this lovely disease and steriods and am trying to be prepared for the many physical changes that await me. So sad and unpleasant.

Hi Emily.
It began about a month after 60 mg per day.

Hernas it does eventually go away. One day you will laugh about it - as I laugh about moving to Tokyo while on 60mg of prednisone not looking one iota as on my passport photo and having to go through getting a drivers license and a resident alien card [or whatever it was called] and them not believing I was really who I was because I didn't look like my passport photo any more.

Let the people stare - they are idiots!

The funny thing really is that in the scheme of things, the moon face is not the biggest problem that life will ever give you.

That's true.
Life does have serious challenges that people face and live with everyday; and having a moon face is,at the very least, the end of the scheme of things.
I hope my topic did not offend anyone and if so, my sincere apologies.

Hernas you did not offend anyone with your topic - no don't even think that! When I saw Moon Face it brought back memories that I can laugh at now - but boy when we were at the place where one gets a driver's license in Minato-ku, the man would look at my passport photo then look at me, look at my passport photo then took at me and that went on a few times - once he even had another employee come over and look at my passport photo and then me. It was embarrassing - I did look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy with dark hair.

This moon face is happening to you, and it isn't fun. I'm not making light of it - just wanted you to know that it will go away and the heck with anyone who stares!

Do you have that wonderful hump at the back of your neck too? I did - also the pimples. And I forgot about this other side effect until I read it here - facial hair, I was afraid I'd end up with sideburns like Elvis had!

You keep talking and you keep asking questions - and never apologize!

Thank you Melinda; you're a kind person and thank you for that. (Thanks for making me laugh.)
And yes. I have that wonderful hump, but no Elvis side-burns yet-LOL.
I know this is temporary and will go away at some point.
You be well,Melinda, and have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

I didn't mean to make you feel bad. My point was that it's temporary and only lasts a few months out of a lifetime. I had it too (and do again, due to permanent Prednisone use for another disorder). But anyway, even though it feels like an awful thing at the time, it goes away and life goes on. In time you laugh about it.

As most have said, it will go way with time and patience. (Patience is what I need to work on-LOL)
Good health and a good life is what most of us strive for, and I'm hoping, not only for myself, but for everyone facing this illness and other illnesses, will reach that point if they haven't already.
All the best to you. Be well. :)
