Just read the article on the front page

I hit a cord with me -

I had all the vaccines as a child. When I went to get married in California way back when, a blood test was required – the result showed I did not have the anti-body for Rubella so they required I get the shot AGAIN  . After two weeks they tested again and the same result ..so….. once again they gave me the vaccine and tested two weeks later :( and finally it was decided that “it does not work for me” so they let me get married and just warned me about Rubella.

That is a total of three vaccinations – I don’t think that having triple the normal dose is a good thing

About 25 years later I was diagnosed with ITP

As a young adult I always bruised easy, I was very active in very physical sports, but never had any reason to have it checked out so no CBC’s to confirm what I now think was the trigger for me.

I am so mad - had I just said no to the additional vaccinations I might not be where I am today.

CindyAnn, somehow I don't think it's that simple. If someone has a predisposition, anything can trigger it. My autoimmune mess seemed to begin with a cold. I don't believe that if I had just avoided that particular germ that my life would now be fine. If it wasn't that it would have probably been something else....some other cascade of events.

There's no way to know for sure and if you're wrong, you're upset for nothing. Don't let it get to you, okay?

thank you for your response Sandi,

I don't think it is that simple, just think that Doctors really don't know as much as they like to project they do. I don't believe I got ITP from the vaccine, just that I am sure it did not help having it three times.

I think what "gets to me" is that feeling of one size fits all to vaccines/treatments - kind of feel like the lab rat sometimes

I agree! Like you, I have gone through some real messes with bad medical advice and I am now very leery of trusting most doctors. So far, I have not had to make a life or death decision so I can take some time and make the decisions that I am most comfortable with. If something serious ever happens and a quick decision must be made, I do not think I will handle it well. ER's scare me the most and if someone has multiple medical problems (as I do), I am afraid that something will be missed.

All I can tell you is that you and I have both learned from that and hopefully, that knowledge will be helpful in future situations. I was horribly naive in my 20's and part of my 30's and I can't believe I was ever that trusting. I am however, glad that I became wiser as the years went on.
