Am I in the right place? was created by Casscree
Hello! I'm new to this forum or even the idea oh ITP. I've been doing research on all these tiny red spots I have all over my body and it lead me here.

My question is is that enough of a symptom to get tested for this condition ? Or are these spots more of a skin issue that doesn't have anything to do with platelets?

Did anyone get their diagnosis just by questioning their red spots?

I hope I'm making sense. Thanks in advance!

Cas:

Having red spots does not mean that you have ITP. It could be some sort of rash. The only way to know for sure is to get a CBC done and see what your platelet counts is. A normal platelet count is 100,000k to 450,000k. Counts below 30k can cause the red spots (petechiae), which are bleeding capillaries. If your platelet count is fine, you do not have ITP.

Usually if someone has petechiae due to low counts, they also have bruises, bloody noses, heavy periods and/or bleeding gums.

Thanks for the info! The only other symptom I had was heavy menstrual cycles. I ended up having a hysterectomy due to endometriosis.

Chances are, that is unrelated. I'm pretty sure they would have done a platelet count prior to surgery and should have found a low count then if you had one. If it doesn't go away, make an appointment with your GP.
