Hi I was given tranexamic acid tablets to help with my period as my count was 19.They have worked beautifully, last day of taking them today. Now I know I am playing the second guessing game as I have a blood test on Wednesday - I have no new bruises and the petechia has really almost gone and no new red dots.....could this be due to the tablets or hopefully my count has not dropped lower???I am aware this medication does not affect platelets. Would welcome your thoughts or experience. I know all will be revealed on Wed but I am usually pretty accurate at predicting counts but I was wondering if this may have affected the signs I usually look for!!I am not on any other treatment, just watch and wait.

I recently took a couple of doses when I suffered a bad knee injury. It was Saturday, in the country & a long way from appropriate medical assistance. Thought it might help slow down the swelling.
Unfortunately I experienced terrible side effects - nausea, dizziness, diarrhea etc. I felt very ill.
Glad it helped you.

MJ sorry it wasn't helpful for you.

My counts have fallen after a 9 year remission!!!I went for a CBC last week as I had noticed symptons count down to 16 and then 19 the next day.Due my next blood test tomorrow and hoping they have not dropped further so I can continue to watch and wait rather than treat....fingers crossed.

Chick:

I think you pretty much answered your own question. Tranexamic Acid should help with symptoms but should not affect counts. So yes, you wouldn't be able to count on symptoms to help determine counts.

Good luck, I hope you won't have to treat. I'm not sure that managing ITP with Tranexamic Acid is such a good idea though (long term).

Off for my blood test now....fingers crossed.

I think the tranexamic was a quick fix for whilst I had my period at such low counts.

For those who have used tranexamic acid for nosebleeds, how well and how quickly did it work?
