Staph Infection

Staph Infection was created by aspradley
Hi-

I was diagnosed with ITP about 12 years ago. I have been fortunate that it hasn't really complicated my daily life. My counts are relatively stable and treatments have never been required.

I did recently acquire a pretty nasty staph infection. I have gone through two rounds of antibiotics and while it has improved, by no means is it gone. And it is starting to spread again.

I haven't specifically talked to my doctor about if ITP could be affecting my ability to fight the infection. Was just curious if anyone else has had difficulty getting rid of staph due to ITP.

Thanks!
Anne

ITP shouldn't affect the healing of a staph infection (unless you've been on immunosupressants). Good luck getting rid of it....must be a stubborn strain.

I've not had staph, but have had cellulitis, and the antibiotic the docs like to prescribe for that just doesn't work for me. Perhaps you should talk to your doctor about a different antibiotic. My infections cleared up right away when I got on a different antibiotic.

I hope it isn't MRSA. Has it been cultured?

I've had a lot of staph infections through the years. A lot of them were on my fingers or thumbs and I had to have them "lanced" in order to heal. I also had a boil on my head that was a staph infection. Just recently, after having rotator cuff surgery, I got a staph infection (cellulitis), but the antibiotic and rest cleared it up. My seems to come when I am run down, or in the recent case, stress from having surgery. I think it is all tied together to a weakened immune system.

You should have it cultured to see exactly what it is.
