Did anyone else catch the NBC show 'The Night Shift' last week? It's a show about returned military doctors working the late shift in a hospital.....sort of 'Grey's Anatomy' meets 'MASH'. The current episode is called 'Coming Home'.

There is a bus crash full of returning soldiers...one starts having a nose bleed....you guessed it, no platelets! They list off all the classic symptoms, then diagnose it as ITP, start him on steroids, etc. I have never seen that on TV before.
Spoiler, he didn't have ITP..it was something else that tanked platelets and was even more rare.
But hey....ITP has made it to TV drama!

Hey, Jack, funny you should mention that show! I watched it yesterday on my computer and was going to post the same thing! I got all excited when they diagnosed the soldier with ITP. Got bummed out when it turned out to be something else. But yea, ITP was mentioned on tv!

Saw it - but then knew it wasn't ITP when after being on steroids [oral or IV?] a very short time the doctors were happy his count had gone up.

By the way - we had the misfortune of being in the ED [ER] not long ago and I had to ask the RN if Night Shift was real. She said yeah sure right, almost the first scene the doctor pulls out whatever it was that the patient was impaled by and everyone knows you don't do that. Said to her - you mean you all don't have sex in the closets & empty bays and have parties all the time on the roof? She just laughed.

I've seen ITP on TV before. I think it was on House and one other show that I can't remember. I don't think ITP is quite dramatic enough to base a show on unless they show a patient bleeding out which is a bit unrealistic.

Years ago, there were reports that Julia Roberts had ITP. If you search it, there are some articles about it. I'm not convinced it's true though.
