I see on here a lot people with counts in the 30 and 40s without treatment and I'm sure there are others with lower counts I'm only curious cause every dr I see seems to think I have the worse case they have seen. I have hAd itp for 11 years and with no treatment my count will go anywhere from 1-5 just curious to see who else's platelets are as stubborn as mine.

My counts were that way for the first 7 years. I didn't think of myself as being 'the worst case' in any way because I would respond to some treatments even if my counts fell again. The worst case would be someone who doesn't respond to any treatments at all.

Exactly I'm sure their are people where nothing works, every time I see a new dr that's just the way they act

The solution: Stop seeing new doctors! :woohoo:

On the serious side, I hope all is going well with the pregnancy, Keli! When is the due date?

When I was frist diagnosed the laboratory could not find a single pallet in my blood sample. :)
So, when I'm without treatment my count is in single numbers, between 0 and 7.
I always put that down to my very effective immune system. Before ITP I never had anything.
Now that my immunsystem turns against my pallets it stays effective.

Cheers,
Jorg

Congrats on the boy! I know 4 pregnant women right now (not including you) and they are all having boys. No girls that I know of.

Only 4 months to go - hang in there!

I was also told I wouldn't need a c section when I thought they did that with itp just incase the baby's born with itp. Sandi I know there were a lot of pregnancy stories on the old boards do you recall if majority was c section or vaginal? They also mentioned going in and testing him before he's born I really don't want them doing that at all heard it's dangerous to him.

Keli - most births, as I recall, have been vaginal. You may have to forgo the epidural if you are under 100k, but they probably told you that.

I've had two vaginal deliveries without epidurals or medications, one was even induced and lasted 24 hours. You get through it, just learn the breathing!

I don't know much about testing the baby's platelet count prior to birth, but it's not a bad idea if the risk is low.

Hi Keli,

When I was pregnant with my son (5 years ago), my platelets were stable (between 50-90k). I was a high rish pregnancy because of my ITP and also because I have Lupus. I was followed by a high risk OB/Gyn, my Rheumatologist, and my Hematologist. They all agreed that I could absolutely deliver vaginally, but my platelets needed to be above 50k to have an epidural. None of my doctor's suggested testing my son's platelets prior to birth. Instead, my hematologist insisted on a CBC drawn from cord blood at delivery and then another CBC drawn on my son several hours after birth. They tested him again right before we were discharged and his platelets were always fine.

Congrats!
~Lauren
