Is it safe to take melatonin with l-theamine 25 mg, and 3 mg melatonin. I have low platelets. Most of the time they are between 6k and 20k.
I would appreciate your input.
Thank you.

If you have lupus then melatonin should be avoided:
www.hopkinslupus.org/lupus-info/lifestyle-additional-information/avoid/
However this study suggests otherwise:

Mayo clinic says this:

Melatonin may affect the risk of clotting. Caution is advised in people with bleeding or clotting disorders and those taking drugs that may affect bleeding.

Those papers were very interesting. I very occasionally take melatonin and had heard the questions about its effects on autoimmune diseases, and seen the warning on the bottle.

The thing that most surprised me about the papers is the HUGE doses they were using. Many of the studies that saw effects on the immune system were at a dose of up to 10 mg/kg. For a 75(-ish) kg person like myself, this would require 250 of the 5 mg tablets I take, which is one complete jar. At 5 mg, my dose is only 0.07 mg/kg. I am surprised that there isn't some secondary toxic effect at that level. I'll bet the subjects of the studies (rats, mostly) slept really well after that dose.

Thus, these articles significantly reduced my worries about incidental use. I would worry more if I used it all the time, or took much higher doses.

Just my take. YMMV.

Did you do your own search though? I just threw up the first three credible sourced articles I found. There were lots more. Good point that we need to consider the dose.
