I've been reading certain medications can effect ITP. What medications should be avoided? After 2 years I finally got my diagnosis on Friday. I also have secondary polycythemia.

My answer to anyone who asks about meds is this: Any drug has the potential to cause a drop in counts. Everyone reacts differently to a particular drug. If thrombocytopenia is a listed side effect, that does not mean it will happen to you. Thrombocytopenia is even a listed side effect for some of the ITP treatments. You have to weigh the pros and cons of taking the drug. If the benefits outweigh the potential risk, try it. Many people here are treating more than one medical issue and sometimes that places ITP on the back burner. In that case, you have to do what you have to do.

Here is a list of drugs/supplements that are known to cause a problem with platelets. Many people with ITP can take these meds without a problem, and some people can take meds that are not listed and have a platelet drop. It can be trial and error.
