Hi everyone, nice to be back but for a different reason,

I read these forums years ago when I was a child with ITP, always the curious one.
I am 20 now, had ITP for 10 years and then one day, 4 years ago, I was told I was in remission just like that after slight improvements gradually.

I have a lot of theories about why I got it, what turned my counts around etc. From 1 to where i sit now comfortably at around 180 there have been A LOT of trials and tribulations. Anyone that is searching for more alternatives, similar in age or wants to know how my tracking went to ITP free please say.

BUT MY REASON FOR THIS THREAD, and perhaps it's been done before is about rashes and trying to determine how many people here have had 'random' or even 'undiagnosed' rashes. and to describe their features, time lengths, treatment processes with them etc.

There seems to be many correlations with ITP and rashes (not the pettechia type). I am very curious to follow this up and get a discussion going.

I had a few rashes and i think they tell a lot about the illness but doctors seem to still believe that many parts of the body and even the mind are unrelated- a fact i know to be untrue.

I had a rash at the beginning of my ITP. They thought it might be shingles but this was left unconfirmed. Even it were shingles this is still interesting - the connection to stress and the chicken pox virus which i had badly at age 1. It was little bubbles around my mouth area particularly, red and i think itchy. I then had a huge bout of guttate psoriasis when i was losing a lot of weight, getting fit and sweating a lot (training for rowing- yes after all those years of being told no i was going to prove that i was an athlete at heart and when i was stable enough platelet wise to the fear of my mother i became a national level rower) - my diet and this detoxing notion i believed my have helped but anyway i was getting better and it was all over me. the dermo said it's hereditary and also related to a throat infection virus...interesting... but it was an incredible rash...

I am not a doctor and i wish i could understand the depths of rashes and the potential correlations to bodily symptoms and ITP but i can't. Still i believe it isn't looked at enough

Please post away about rashes and your ITP!!!

Most rashes are autoimmune-related (eczema, psoriasis, hives), as is ITP. It's not uncommon for people with one autoimmune problem to have one or more others.

I had eczema as a child and well into my 20's. In my 30's, I was diagnosed with ITP. In my 40's, I was diagnosed with Lupus. Two of my children have had eczema, one has asthma and Graves Disease, all autoimmune.

Of course some rashes can be viral....herpes, shingles, chicken pox, or bacterial....impetigo, strep, etc. People on immunosuppressants are more susceptible to those, but they are common in childhood as well.

Other than petechiae, rashes are not directly related to ITP, but can be related to a genetic propensity toward autoimmune disorders and their treatments.

I would assume if the "rash" around your mouth was shingles they would have been able to confirm it - my hematologist took one look at my back and said herpes zoster & got out her prescription pad - if not treated it will spread and get worse [judging from a couple friends who had it and were not diagnosed in time to take an anti-viral]. I have had it 2x - once before ITP, 2nd about 12 years after ITP diagnosis. And yes, if one has had chicken pox stress can trigger shingles.

Otherwise ITP since 1989 and no rashes.
