Shingles Vaccine caused I.T.P. was created by Lady Elly
My story is that on March 17, 2010, I had a physical and platelets were 209,000. I was very healthy until two weeks later, April 1, 2010, I had a Shingles Vaccine. Within weeks, I noticed bruising. May 2010, I had more than 20 bruises on my hips, and across stomach. Platelet count was 6,000.

I was wondering if anyone else had the Shingles Vaccine or any vaccine prior to coming down with I.T.P. ?

would appreciate any information regarding vaccine and I.T.P.

Thank you.

There was a recent thread on this topic:
pdsa.org/forum-sp-534/5-newly-diagnosed-a-frequently-asked-questions/27940-shingles-vacination-zoztramax-worthwhile.html?limitstart=0#39906
Many have suspected their ITP was caused by a vaccine, but your case is unusually pinned down in time between two platelet counts.
On the other thread I mentioned my son-in-law has facial paralysis as a result of shingles. He even has to tape his eyelid shut when he sleeps. There are rare reactions to shingles as well as to the vaccine. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Rob,

Thanks for the recent thread location. I missed seeing it, but will check it out.

Yes, the Shingles Vaccine was definitely the cause of I.T.P. Due to having platelet count 2 weeks prior to Shingles Vaccine and within weeks after vaccine, coming down with I.T.P. it was very obvious.

My hematologist filled out the paperwork and reported it. The live virus in the shingles vaccine can be dangerous. My family physician said it was definitely brought on by the vaccine. I went to Mayo Clinic and hematologist said it was the Shingles Vaccine beyond a shadow of a doubt. He said that vaccines is the cause of many immune disorders.

Regret that your son-in-law has facial paralysis as a result of shingles. Do hope things will improve for him.

Again, thank you for your information.
