my son was diagnosed with itp August of 2012 the drs tried ivig several times it would bring it up for a short time but never lasted then they used steroid the platlets would rise and fall wile he was still taking the steroids then they tried retuximad and that made to diffrience they still dropped they are now doing nplate witch he is responding to a little better but they have to keep increasing the dose and they have a max number that he is creeping up on I was wondering what are some other meds they havnt tried that others have seen some kind of results with they think my sons itp started due to a virus they say his body is attacking his platelets thinking they are a virus its kind of funny cause he was sick all the time prior to itp and he has gone since august of 2012 and hasn't been sick since I kind of wish he would and maybe it will cause his body to straiten out I asked the dr. if they could give him a virus to try but they wouldn't they say its to risky. I figure if its what caused the problem it would be nice if it could fix it.

Have a look at the latest guidelines. The bit about children is about half way down.

bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/content/115/2/168.full

It also talks about when children should be treated and when watch and wait is more appropriate. You may find that helpful.

You asked the Dr. if they would give your son a virus? I'm not sure a Dr. would have access to a virus and if he did, I wouldn't want to go there!

Ann is right, watch and wait is sometimes a viable option.
