So last count was 26 bleeding gums when I brush teeth and some bruising. bleeding gums have been fairly constant getting petechiea feeling nauseated from my own blood. Bad winter storm going on right now. So start calling doing some research should I drive the 45 minute drive (which due to storm will be at least 1hr. Feeling like crap more petechiea and bruising do I call an ambulance because my new car can't handle snowy roads.

Brilliant idea call the local Urgent care/ hospital down the street see if they have blood service and lab they are part of the hospital network. So I called told yes full lab and blood services but sorry you can't talk to someone we don't allow that. So I get in my car drive the 2 1/2 blocks. Triage nurse asks typical question what types of bleeding. Any blood in the stool (none that I see but I only go once every 3-4 days) First words out of doctors mouth we do not have a full lab here may have to send your blood out. Next words are platelets 6 will contact your doctor and see what to do. I now have nasty blood blisters and a headache (actually came in with the headache and told the doctor).

Last words from doctor Your doctor says he can get you treatment tomorrow. Go home wait for his call and if you get a headache (told you I had one) or see blood in the stood (told you could take days for that) call 911.

So now at home doctor called have an appointment for tomorrow at 1pm 45 minutes from my home. Hospital diagnosis Severe Thrombocytopenia DUH I didn't need blood work to tell me I'm low. Frustrated and agitated (headache now getting worse from stress) and they have closed roads and calling police off the roads. Good luck if I start a brain bleed!!

I guess I'll quit complaining about how hot and dry it is out here in California!

Do you have anything to take for a rescue? prednisone? the headache is the thunderclap that knocks you to the ground(now hearing that should cheer you up!) Seriously that sounds very stressful. Do you know why your platelets crashed? change in meds?

I went to the hospital in an ambulance once when my counts were 6K and I was new to ITP. A nurse had scared me into thinking I was having a brain bleed. At the ER they just looked at me like "what are you doing here?!" They gave me some prednisone, said go home make an appt with a hemo. I took a cab back home. That little bit of excitement cost me nearly $3000. and took 2 years to pay off.

Everyone is different so don't let my story deter you from calling an ambulance- I don't mean it like that. Sounds like it would be best if you get some treatment today. good luck!

Julia,

That sounds so frustrating!! No wonder you need to vent. They were no help at all.

You have had very low counts before and you have been okay. Can you take some tyelenol for the headache? Hopefully you can get to your appointment tomorrow. So they will give you winrho tomorrow?

I feel bad for you with all the snow, i will stop complaining about our crummy winter here in massachusetts.

Yes winrho tomorrow at 1pm storm is supposed to break tomorrow morning! Booked of work tomorrow night so don't have to worry about having to go into work. As much as I should stay in I have no food so going to have to go and get something! Still very nauseated!

Wow, you're having a rough go, Julia! Our snow turned to freezing rain! Watched a car have a hard time getting up the hill on the road we live on! He finally made it after 3 tries.

Ambulance fees are being dropped here in NB again as of the 1st of April. Not sure if that's going to be all across Canada.

Any word on the Rituxan?

No word on Rituxan yet.

Just spoke to a friend she will drive me in for treatment because I'm feeling pretty rough and not sure I should drive!

Right now stomach hurts, head hurts, feeling weak, gums on and off bleeding, (gross but have to say) wearing a pad because for some reason female bleeding going on (even though I'm in menopause and had a hysterectomy).

That said very little petechiea and not a huge amount of bruising! Pretty much just tired from being up half the night on top of working the night before.

Went for treatment for 1 they ran a bag and mixed my Rh-immunoglobulin (Rhogam/ Winrho). My doctor does not know about pretreatment so I took 2 tylenol 500mg and 1 benadryl. Left there feeling a tad better probably from the fluids I was given.

My friend and made a stop to my favorite store that is around the corner from the hosptal and than we got food. Got home about 4 hours later took benadryl and tylenol laid down and don't remember anything till now. Just woke up 330am feel not much different. Bleeding still going on and off. On my arm where they started the IV I'm afraid to take the bandaid off I seen nasty blue under it.

Well time to lay back down

I was very surprised to read that your doctor does not give premeds before infusion?! I have found that the WinRho made me feel worse before I felt better .
I hope you begin to feel better. Make sure you really flush yourself out, drink plenty of fluids.
