Well after 4 years of battling ice, snow, and a terrible job market in Ohio, I am moving back to Arizona in April! I will however really miss Dr. mccrae at Cleveland Clinic. Worse case scenario is I can fly to Cleveland twice a year and consult with him over the phone. However, if anyone lives in Phoenix and has any recommendations on hematologists that either know a lot about ITP or are willing to learn about it, I would appreciate your recommendations!

Thanks,
Valerie

There is one of the hemo's at Mayo who came from Canada that was active in research when he was in Canada. Can't remember his name, but Joan Young probably will. He was a speaker at our Phoenix Support group one session last year. It would depend what part of the valley you settle in. I see Dr Patrick Donovan in Scottsdale (Near Scottsdale Health Care Osborn). I know they have a least one other ITP patient.

Liking your present hematologist so much and trusting him I'd start by asking if he knows someone in the Phoenix area.

Melinda, I will def ask my Cleveland clinic doctor if he knows of anyone. He is 4 hours away now so I will travel for a good hema. I'm glad Phoenix is a big city. When I looked up hemas, there were actually 5 that specialize in blood disorders. 2 at Mayo Clinic.

Bunnie, I will be in the west valley but will travel if the hema is worth it. I'm wondering if one of the 2 docs I looked up is the one you are referring to from mayo clinic. Are you a member of the local group there? I am going to email Joan young because I would like to be involved and I can ask for recommendations of docs as well.
